Major (Ret.) Trevor J. Smith

Trevor Smith is a command-level law enforcement executive with more than 34 years of distinguished public safety service leading complex operations, high-risk investigations, and enterprise-wide strategic initiatives. He is recognized for decisive leadership, operational excellence, and strategic risk management in high-stakes, highly scrutinized environments. Throughout his career, he has led multidisciplinary teams, managed statewide programs, developed organizational policy, and strengthened mission readiness through intelligence-led policing and data-driven performance management. Trevor began his law enforcement career with the Baton Rouge Police Department in 1991 before joining the Louisiana State Police in 1994. During his tenure with the Louisiana State Police, he advanced to the rank of Major/Command Inspector, where he provided executive oversight of criminal intelligence, special investigations, crisis response, training operations, the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory, and the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information (BCII). In these executive leadership roles, he supervised more than 200 commissioned and civilian personnel while serving as a trusted advisor on enterprise risk management, organizational strategy, regulatory compliance, personnel development, and critical operational decision-making. Early in his career, Trevor was involved in a fatal officer-involved shooting—an experience that profoundly shaped both his leadership philosophy and professional mission. The physical and psychological challenges that followed gave him firsthand insight into the realities officers face after critical incidents and inspired a lifelong commitment to helping law enforcement professionals navigate trauma, organizational stress, and the long-term effects of post-critical incident recovery. Trevor earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Master of Public Administration from Louisiana State University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (Session 233) and a Certified Autism Specialist (CAS) through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). His professional education also includes advanced certifications in Traffic Accident Reconstruction, Fraud Claims Law, Executive Management of Intelligence, Advanced Search and Seizure, Gangs and Organized Crime Intelligence, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, and Public Information and Media Relations. Since 2008, Trevor has instructed and mentored more than 1,000 law enforcement officers, recruits, supervisors, and first responders. He is recognized as a subject matter expert in criminal intelligence, officer-involved shootings, organized crime investigations, executive leadership, and autism awareness for public safety professionals. His instruction combines executive-level leadership experience with real-world operational knowledge to deliver practical, evidence-based strategies that agencies can immediately implement. His distinguished career has been recognized through numerous professional honors, including Trooper of the Year, Meritorious Service Award, Unit Citation Award, and Professional Excellence Award. He remains active in several professional organizations, including the FBI National Academy Associates (FBINAA), the International Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Investigators Association (IOMGIA), and the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA). Today, Trevor is the Founder and Co-Owner of Alpha Fifty-Four Group, where he provides executive consulting, leadership development, critical incident training, officer wellness education, and strategic advisory services to law enforcement agencies throughout the region. His mission is to prepare agencies and their leaders to perform decisively before, during, and after the profession's most challenging events by strengthening leadership, resilience, and organizational readiness. Outside of his professional work, Trevor is an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Nathan Lott.
